Located in the Sydney suburb of Chiswick, our Campbell Park Amenities project is a simple utilitarian building which maximises the economy and efficiency of a steel structural skeleton to provide the local community with generous new spaces to replace the old dilapidated amenities block.
The building is split into 3 functional zones/volumes. The first includes an impressively sized store-room for the local football club, as well as public toilets. The middle section has home and away change rooms, a referee’s room and a café. The end volume houses an open plan community hall. In between these zones generous undercover spaces link the local street to the park and allow for refuge from the sun and rain. The café space has full commercial kitchen facilities and is a vast improvement on the previous canteen.
Designed in close collaboration with the park’s main tenant – the Abbotsford Juniors Football Club – as well as the City of Canada Bay Council, the project exemplifies how council and government funding can be used to maximise the benefits to a grass-roots local sporting club and the surrounding community. We hope that these new facilities will serve the club and the locals for decades to come.
