After a number of false starts on our home renovation we decided to do a complete knock-down and rebuild. The freedom this gave us allowed us to be more demanding of what we wanted from the finished product, and having seen some of Mark’s previous designs we reached out to him for an initial consultation. During this consultation we were immediately put at ease. Mark’s ideas of a modern house that was sympathetic to the streetscape, careful consideration of light and shadows, and tailoring to the needs (and a couple of whims) of our family were strongly aligned with our objectives.

The more time we spent with Mark the more we realised we had made the right decision to use him for the design of our home. Mark made it easy for us to put our trust in him and his team, and give them full design control. Beyond the design stage we continued to engage Mark and his team – for the construction phase, where Mark ensured none of the details were missed; and for interior design, which really took our project to the next level.

Importantly, throughout the process the communication was maintained at a high level. Mark always made himself available to discuss matters and bounce ideas off. He was open to ideas and alternatives that we might suggest and we were encouraged by his enthusiasm to incorporate elements from our old house (including some glass and bricks) into our new home in a novel way, which was important to us.

The outcome speaks for itself – we now have a home that is modern without being out of place in the neighbourhood; generous without being excessive; luxurious but welcoming. Family, friends and neighbours have been unanimous in their praise for our home.

Our trust was well placed in Mark and his team, and we are forever grateful for the wonderful home we now have.

My wife and I are very grateful to Mark and his team for the exceptional outcome they delivered. We started the process by providing a basic outline of our family’s needs and wants, we also wanted Mark to work with the existing 1920's bungalow structure and streetscape. Beyond that, we provided little other detail.

What we received was a beautifully designed home that was well thought out and which provides a wonderful place to live now and will adapt as the children grow up. This versatility provides adequate privacy with various living area's throughout with the kitchen as a central meeting place.

Mark also managed to inject an abundance of light with the internal courtyard, high ceilings and the liberal use of glass. The original house provides an intimate and cosy feel whilst the rear and upstairs feel open and airy, all in all its a very pleasant contrast.

We were impressed with the amount of thought and detail that went into the various elements such as lighting design, joinery design, material and colour scheme, and furniture selections. Mark also worked collaboratively with the landscape designer, Melissa Wilson, to design a very usable, low maintenance and elegant garden/pool area.

From a sustainability perceptive Mark ensured we had an adequate water tank storage for our garden and pool requirements and a solar system which is ready to receive battery storage in the near future. In total the energy cost to run the home is very low as is its impact on the environment for a house of its size.

In addition to the design elements, Mark and his team were always approachable, professional and provided a high level of service.

I am pleased to say that we have been thanked by numerous people in the neighbourhood for not tearing down the original home, with Marks expertise it was possible to maintain the streetscape but still enjoy living in a thoroughly modern, well thought out, sustainable and usable home

We were very fortunate to meet Mark Szczerbicki through mutual friends. At the time he and his wife Liz had formed their own architectural studio and we were interested in renovating our Bardwell Park home.

On our first meeting with Mark to discuss our ideas and aspirations, we felt at ease and very much assured that he was listening and open to collaboration. He very clearly laid out the process and provided us with a fee proposal to cover all stages of the project.

When the time came to review the first draft of drawings, our initial impressions were confirmed, with the realisation Mark had listened carefully to our requirements and ideas down to the finest detail. We loved the concept Mark had designed. There was little if anything we wanted to adjust. Mark had carefully considered the site, relativity to our neighbours, the aspect, light and ventilation. There was also a lot of flair to the design and clever use of the available space.

We continued to refine the details in what was a most rewarding collaboration. At no point did Mark get frustrated with our lack of urgency to move forward to the building stage. Spending time in the planning phase working on the detail meant that we had a very clear set of drawings which helped make the tender process for builders easy and accurate. Mark helped us to find builders that he knew but was also happy for us to source our own builders. In the end, we settled on one of the recommended builders and this was a good decision as Mark had a solid working relationship with the trades team.

At the point we commenced building, Mark was always on hand to guide the process at key stages, while offering advice on the design details alongside Liz. We had complete trust in their knowledge and ability to be able to guide us with selection of materials, colours and hard furnishings, knowing what would complement the overall design. They always succeeded and made the process enjoyable and rewarding.

On completion, the reasons we wanted to work with an architect are justified.  Living in a space we love, with clever design details that are both subtle and surprising. We are delighted with the outcome and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mark and the team.

After meeting with 6 different architects in deciding who would design our home renovation, we chose Mark and have not regretted it! He stood shoulders above the rest when it come to his easy approach, communication with us, meticulous eye for detail and ultimately his contemporary design.

We engaged Mark from start to finish, including initial briefs, design, council submission, detailed drawing for builders, joinery, lighting schedule and everything in between. Mark was intimately involved with the construction and assisted us through each step of the build, making for an enjoyable renovation experience.

Needless to say, we think very highly of Mark and his work, and subsequently have referred him to our close friends and family.
